We are pleased to report that the Scout Association has awarded a Silver Acorn in recognition of “specially distinguised service” to Beaver Scout Leader, Andrew Cooper.

Andrew joined the 38th Rossendale as a Cub Scout in 1972 followed by a period of time in Scouts and Venture Scouts where he gained his Queens Scout Award.

In 1984 the 38th setup Beaver Scouts as part of a pilot programme for the Scout Association and Andrew was one of the initial team of Leaders.

Still “Beavering” after 30-years, Andrew says it is the best job in Scouting.  Watching six year old children grow up and progress through the Group is wonderful to watch.  Many become friends for life.  Presently we have at least three members of the Group whose parents were former Beavers and Andrew feels there will be more to come.

Fashion designer Henry Holland of the famous “House of Holland” brand was one of Andrew’s former Beavers.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary, Andrew has arranged a sleepover in the circus ring at Blackpool Tower in May.

Andrew’s enthusism has rubbed off on his family.  Group Scout Leader Louise Cooper was introduced to Scouting by Andrew and his son Oliver is now a Beaver Scout Leader and daughter Emma is a Cub Scout Leader.

Andrew is looking forward to the next 30-years!
