The Tipi Village at Bowley Scout Camp Site was for many their first night away with the Scouts and for most, it was their first time sleeping in a tipi – a camp of firsts all round! Saturday morning saw many Scouts (and leaders!) taking part in some new activities. The morning consisted of Jacob’s Ladder and Air Pistol shooting. After lunch the Scouts continued with their ‘firsts’ theme and took to the Turf Boards (a cross between a grass-sledge and a skateboard) which is harder than it looks and by far the favourite of the group, Tomahawk Throwing which involves throwing ‘angel axes’ and ‘tomahawk’ axes at targets. A good time was had by all. Saturday evening saw Purple Scouts’ fancy dress costume competition in which prizes were given for creativity, originality and performance. This was a welcome warm down from the wide-game in the dark where the Scouts had to get as many glow-sticks as they possibly could from within a given area – I think we brought most of the mud back with us!
On Sunday to wind down the camp from the excitement of the day before, Purple Scouts embarked on a hike taking them down through Bowley (parts of which many people don’t see) and into the Countryside along the river returning back to camp just in time for a hot lunch. A great time was had by all and the Scouts are looking forward to their next camp in the New Year! For more photos from the weekend, view our Facebook Album.
