The celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee got off to an early start at the 38th Rossendale.
120 Guests attended for an Afternoon Tea with more than enough sandwiches, cake, scones and jelly to go around to feed them all as well as the team of volunteer Leaders who made it all possible.
Former 38th Member, Trevor Greenwood entertained the seated guests with a spot of table magic which after everyone had eaten was followed by a performance by the Todmorden Community Brass Band.
Following the entertainment 28 Young People received their Chief Scout Awards.
Well done to the Beavers (Bronze), Cubs (Silver) and Scouts (Gold) for the hard work in completing the top Award in your Section.
A 15-year Service Award was presented to Assistant Cub Scout Leader, Michael Hoyle (Baloo).
Many congratulations to Michael who is one of around 40 inspiring 38th Rossendale Leaders who bring #SkillsForLife to close on 200 Members on a weekly basis.
Group Scout Leader, Andrew Cooper celebrated his 58th birthday which had significance in that it sees the start of his 38th year as a Leader and 50th year as a Member of the Group joining as a Cub Scout when he was 8-years old.
The final part of the afternoon was our Summer Draw. Thank you to those that supported this and the Afternoon Tea fundraising activities.
Before expenses, we had an income of £804.00 of Summer Draw ticket sales, £600.00 of Afternoon Tea Sales and with thanks to Rossendale Borough Council a £250.00 grant to support the event.
The funds raised are an invaluable contribution to the ongoing running costs of the Group and will act as a vehicle for keeping monthly subscription fees as low as possible.
