France 2022
Following a successful France camp in August 2018, it was not long afterwards that plans were made for our return in August 2020. Nobody could have imagined what was in store at the beginning of that year.
Two years later than planned and to a completely different location, we were back.
Setting off at lunchtime on Friday 19th August 2022, 77 Young People accompanied by 23 Adult Leaders left Rossendale for our week of adventure.
26-hours later we arrived at the Club Correze Activity Centre in Meymac, in the Dordogne region of France.
Following lunch, we went on a Forest Walk and in the evening Team Sports and Initiative Games activities.
The Sunday would see half of the group off to Lac De Sechemaille for water activities which consisted of Kayaking, Canoeing, Sailing and Boarding. The other half stayed onsite and did two of Mountain Biking, Climbing, Fencing or Target Sports activities. The evening was spent participating in the reverse of the evening before.
On the Monday, the other half would spend the day on water activities, whilst the other group went to a woodland High-Ropes course for the morning and a treasure hunt in the afternoon in and around the town of Meymac.
Capture the Flag and a visit to the nearby Mont Bessou filled the Monday evening. Climbing the tower would see everyone 1000-metres above sea level. The views were spectacular. The two activities were swapped on the Tuesday evening.
Tuesday would also see half of the group off to the town of Rocamdour about 2-hours away. This amazing place was built onto the side of a cliff face. Here was the opportunity to spend money in the local shops. The second group undertaking the Mountain Biking, Climbing, Fencing or Target Sports activities on-site.
More Water Sports and a visit to Rocamdour for the second group on Wednesday following by a choice of activities in the evening. Capture the Flag being the preferred option.
The final visit to the Water Sports on the Thursday and the second group at the High Ropes brought the activities to a close. A more relaxed Awards Presentation and Disco rounded off our time at Club Correze.
Everyone was woken up at 3:30 am on the Friday morning ready for final packing and off to Disneyland Paris.
Arriving at Disneyland for around midday everyone made the most of the facilities on offer. We all gathered at the end of the evening for the laser, lights and fireworks show, made more special this year with a drone display recognising 30-years of Disneyland Paris.
We arrived back in Rossendale at teatime on Saturday 27th August. Tired but fulfilled following our week of international adventure.
